Exams

Here at Big Time students will work towards taking an exam every 6 months, however this can be extended at the request of the student.

  • The cost of the exam varies depending on which grade the student is taking.

  • Exams are held at different public centres across London depending on which date you choose to take the exam.

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for taking their child to the exam.

  • Examinations run throughout the year.

  • Not only are the students representing themselves but they are also representing the academy. We therefore ask that they arrive 15 minutes before their exam time to avoid lateness.

  • In order to look smart and presentable we ask that students taking their exam wear their Big Time uniform, appropriate footwear and their hair tied off their face.

  • After the exam LAMDA send a certificate and written feedback with your child's grade. This can take up to 6 weeks.

LAMDA offer many different types of exams. Please see more information below...

Verse and Prose

The Speaking Verse and Prose exams are designed to develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication of the written word. Students are required to learn the following:

  • Younger students are required to learn 1 or 2 poems depending on their age.

  • Older or more advanced students are required to learn 1 poem and 1 prose.

  • Students will be asked theory questions in the exam based on the pieces they have chosen. This theory increases in difficulty as the grades get harder.

Acting

The Acting examinations are designed to develop the skills necessary to communicate dramatic text to an audience. Big Time students do not move onto acting exams until they are 8 years old, however can start with Verse and Prose at a younger age. Students are required to learn the following:

  • Students are required to learn one or two monologues depending on the grade.

  • Students will be asked theory questions in the exam based on the pieces they have chosen. This theory increases in difficulty as the grades get harder.

Not only do these classes help to develop diction, vocal clarity and speaking and listening skills, they also broadens knowledge of poetry, novels and plays. They encourage independent thinkers and improve confidence in children.
